Board games are a treasured family past time in the United States, and many people still have game night with family and friends. Even though a new game seems to hit the shelves every few minutes, there are a few tried and true ones that never seem to get old.

Monopoly
You either love it or you hate it, but working your way around the board and collecting money is an American favorite. “Get out of jail free” when you play this with your family and friends. Just make sure you’re all still friends when the game is over.

Chess and Checkers
Many families have the “multi-use” game board that comes complete with checkers, chess, and maybe even backgammon. You buy the set for $20 at your generic big brand store, and you really only ever play checkers – and then pretend you know how to play chess. This is a time-honored tradition in the American suburbs.
Sorry
This game will have you saying “Sorry” but not really meaning it. Take your turns around the board, flipping cards to decide how many squares you move or who you kick back to Home. It’s all a game of chance, but that doesn’t make it any less hurtful when you keep getting bumped off the board!
Scrabble
Who doesn’t love a good game of Scrabble? This is a great way to weed out the family and friends who have never opened a book in their life, and a really upsetting way to lose to that friend who has apparently read the dictionary. This is a classic, for sure, and changes every time you use it as new words are added to the Rule Book every day!
