- What is the best board game of all time?
That’s a hard question to answer because you have to take into account that the games we play in the United States aren’t always the games played across the world. However, the best selling game of all time is Monopoly, and there are so many different versions (based on movies, pop culture, and so on) that it seems nearly everyone has a board in their homes. But just because it’s the best selling one doesn’t mean that everyone likes it – Monopoly is also the most hated game of all time as well, according to some surveys.
- What games should I play with my toddler?
Board games and toddlers are historically not the best combination. They move too fast and too clumsily to really keep pieces on the board, so don’t be too committed to finishing the game by the rules. For this reason, I recommend simple games like Candyland or Chutes and Ladders that let your kid move through the board without anything really at stake. If they move all over the board, you won’t be too upset (I hope).
- Where should I travel if I love playing board games?
Anywhere! Games are a universal pastime! However, if you want to learn games that are entirely different in appearance, rules, and objectives than what you’re used to, I recommend going to South America. Elders there spend a lot of time playing board games, and it’s a pretty serious pastime. People even bet on the outcomes. Be prepared to lose some money, but learn a whole bunch! Games like Parques, Brazilian checkers, and others are pretty common in the region.
- How do I convince my family to have a Game Night?
The first step in convincing anyone to do anything is to show them how much fun it can be! Pick a game that can please the whole family or your group of friends, and have everyone over. Once your family gets into the swing of the game, they’ll enjoy themselves and the time spent together. Make it a weekly thing, and ask family or friends to contribute a new game each time you get together. This way, people look forward to the new game and learning the new rules with you!
- What board games should I buy for my first home?
Starting your first game cupboard can be quite exciting, especially if you’re expecting to play a lot with your family, friends, or your own children. Depending on the ages of everyone you’re expecting to play with, I recommend starting with “the classics”: Monopoly, Scrabble, Clue, Sorry, cards (a few packs), chess and checkers (you can usually find these in a set together), and maybe even Twister, Candyland, Apples to Apples. If you have a lot of older people playing, also pick up backgammon, Rummicube or Sequence, and anything related to cards. If you have younger kids, always go for Mouse Trap or Chutes and Ladders.
